Joan Konkel received a Master’s Degree in Sculpture from George Washington University in Washington, DC, and worked as a professional artist for over twenty years. She was later awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She became a recipient of the Annie Albers’s Designer Award presented at the Renwick Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
Konkel’s work is included in the permanent collections of The Museum of Art, DeLand, Florida, the Polk Museum at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, and the Golisano Children’s Museum in Naples, Florida. It was also selected for ambassadorial residences through the US Department of State’s Arts in Embassies Program and placed in Paris, France, and Tirana, Albania. Multiple corporate and residential clients, both nationally and internationally, have included her work in their collections.
Galleries that represent Joan are located on the east and west coasts and in Michigan. She has had multiple solos, and group shows with reviews, including those by the Washington Post, Philadelphia Gallery Guide, Washington Spaces Magazine, and SRQ Magazine. She was also one of the artists featured in E. Ashley Rooney’s book 100 Artists of the Mid-Atlantic.
